Volvo S40/V50
The latest babies of the Volvo stable, the S40/V50 are built on new platform and boost a Swedish style with superior road holding and high safety standards. Powered by a 2.4 or 2.5 turbocharged engine, either versions of the car provide decent performance and dynamic handling. The faster versions of the S40 are capable of a century sprint in 7.2 sec. The range topping T5 comes standard with Dynamic Stability Traction Control (DSTC) while the 2.4-litre makes do with Stability Traction Control (STC). Although the car might look smaller but the S40 boost an increased interior space over its predecessor and the V50 boosts a load lugging capacity ranging from 417-litres to 1307-litres.
Volvo S60/V70
Introduced at year 2000, the S60 svelte and coup like shape basically shed Volvo's bland image and redefined the brand. The S60 is powered by a range of turbocharged five-cylinder engines and deliver good poke and sweet sound. Dynamically, the car handles pretty well for curve-balls on our local roads but is not quite on par with some of its Teutonic rear-wheel driven rivals. The interior is functional and ergonomically designed while fit and finish is right up to the mark but some materials used don't really feel like it. The stylish V70 estate is endowed with a luggage volume of 1062-litres and 2025-litres with the rear seats been folded down.
Volvo S60R/V70R
With badge R tagged to the body of either the S60R or the V70R, both of them offers the surety and confident of all wheel drive grip and handling, a slick-shifting 6-speed manual gearbox mated to a 300bhp turbocharged engine. Apart from a few understated exterior and interior design cues, both of them are not encumbered by outrageous body-kits and over the top aesthetics. Both R cars boost a sophisticated 'Skyhook'-derived Active Performance Chassis, which features the innovative Four-C (Continuously Controlled Chassis Concept) technology, which enables the active suspension to adapt and adjust itself to road conditions.
Volvo S80
Offering customers with 3 different variants of engine, namely 2.0T, 2.5T and a twin turbo 2.9-litre T6 Executive. Exterior styling is subdued and understated, although this latest incarnation exudes a sportier demeanor than its predecessor. Interior styling cues include more sophisticated detailing and a whole raft of luxury options including an integrated GSM phone system and premium sound system. The generous legroom and overall comfort remains consistent throughout the range.
Volvo XC70
This off road hybrid combines the elegance of the V70 with the chunky styling of an SUV. Powered by a 2.5-litre turbocharged power plant that propels the car to 100km/hr from rest in 8 seconds. Beside the Volvo's AWD system, the XC70's cat-like characteristic delivers comfort and spaciousness with great versatility. This soft roader comes standard with anti-spin system, TRACS, which ensures that power is channeled to the wheel with most grips.
Volvo XC90
This muscular 7-seater SUV exudes an unmistaken road presence while driving and handling like a smaller car. The cabin is equipped with a whole host of amenities to benefit three rows of occupants.
