Pro Driveability - Motoring
Motoring June 2000 Review Reactor
Broquet's Reactor Pro is a fuel catalyst system that genuinely improves the car's driveability, suggests David Ting after trying one out over 20,000 km.
Described as an enthusiast-oriented evolution of the original groundbreaking fuel catalyst system from the UK that's used successfully worldwide, the Reactor Pro is designed to further enhance the car's power, fuel efficiency and exhaust emissions, with Broquet claiming confidently that the middle and long-term gains easily outweighing the initial cost of purchase and installation. The Pro variant builds on the proven capability of the Reactor by containing even more of those special Broquet pellets within its elegant stainless steel body, thereby accelerating the catalytic effect on the conditioned petrol and thus further benefiting engine performance, fuel economy and operating cleanliness.
Having put a unit through an extended real-world road test, one filled with typical journalistic sceptism, we're inclined to agree with Broquet. Compared to the original Reactor tested in the exact same Fiat, the Reactor Pro delivers even more benefits. One of them is the greater pull of the four-pot engine when the turbo starts spinning in earnest from 3000rpm upwards. From there to around 5500rpm, the surge is stronger than with the first Reactor and far stronger than in the car's pre-Reactor days. The difference is like that between afternoon driving and midnight driving. However, the fuel saving seems to have dropped by around 5 percent with the Reactor Pro, but it's still a respectable 3 to 5 percent better than what the car could do when it was standard.
At the end of the day, we're quite impressed by the Broquet Reactor Pro. We won't go to the extent of endorsing it, of course, but we certainly don't mind providing a positive user testimonial.
