Investigation BROQUET Part 1 - Carma Magazine

Like us, you have probably heard of Broquet and like us you probably also scoffed at the claims of improved fuel economy and enhanced performance. Broquet's concept of catalysation however did make us a little more curious than other wonder-enhancers so we decided to take a less skeptical approach. You see, a catalyst comprised of noble metals, takes part in a chemical reaction by accelerating the process but without itself undergoing any chemical or physical change. The platinium and palladium in your exhaust pipe catalytic converter for instance speeds up the process of oxidizing carbon monoxide to CO2, nitrous oxides to NO2 and unburnt hydrocarbons to H2O and CO2 but do not actually change in atomic structure or physical appearance. Just as contact between exhaust gas and the surface of the catalysts promotes oxidation, Broquet claims that as the fuel flows over its solid catalytic metal pellets the liquid hydrocarbon fuel is chemically modified such that its combustion is more stable and more complete.

We'll soon find out if there is any measurable change because we have just installed one of the Broquet products in a car which we will be testing over a period. The product in question is the version known as the BoostMaster 40. It is installed in the high pressure fuel supply line leading to the injector header. None of the original fuel plumbing was cut or modified, instead a short section of the hose between the bulk head and the header was disconnected and replaced with Broquet components using the same type of snap-fittings as the original. The installation took roughly 40 minutes but our tests will be a lot longer than that. Look out for our reports in the coming issues.
