SUBARU
SUBARU LEGACY
Subaru have slowly proven their ability to appeal to a select group of savvy buyers. The Legacy is the brand’s interpretation of a mid-sized executive sedan. The characteristic offbeat burble of the horizontally opposed 4-cylinder can become addictive while the AWD grip is prodigious enough over all sorts of road conditions. The 245bhp GT variant is to have its combination of grunt, comfort, refinement and stealthy good looks.
SUBARU IMPREZA
The Impreza TS, the manual and the auto, is powered by a 1.6-litre engine that is mated to the AWD transmission, offers enthusiasts the addictive soundtrack and grippy handling without the high maintenance and insurance costs of its turbocharged counterparts. All the added machinery comes with a weighty penalty. Punters who are looking for decent performance may eschew the automatic in favor of the manual for the better power to weight ratio of the latter.
SUBARU IMPREZA WRX / STI
These highly charged variants of the Impreza boast WRC derived looks and engines that produce between 225bhp and 265bhp. The cabin is festooned with the necessary sporty enhancements to accentuate the car’s intentions. The AWD technology keeps the car on track. Qualities of materials, fit and finish have improved over its predecessor (GC).
SUBARU FORESTER
The matured current sleekly shaped Forester has evolved from the endearing brick-like shape of its predecessor. The Forester has only one turbocharged boxer 2-litre engine locally, compared to the variants of the previous car. The cabin is covered in durable, hardwearing and utilitarian plastics that promote feature rather than aesthetic form. A high level of fit and finish is evident.
SUBARU OUTBACK
The only Subaru in Singapore to feature the Marque’s torquey 3.0-litre horizontally opposed flat-six engine is the Outback. The car features a generous boot storage capacity and a well-appointed cabin to ensure that occupants are carried around in comfort. AWD aids traction under trying road conditions, while the suspension settings have been optimized to provide a well-controlled and pliant journey over all sorts of terrain. Engine refinement is at its peak and the output offered by the ‘boxer six’ is sufficient to propel the Outback around with ease.
